Wal-Mart On-Line Photo Center
While this site has been up and in operation for easily more than a year they have recently made a new addition: On-line prints and CDs in as little as one hour!
This is, of course, contingent on the fact the one-hour photo center is open and that your order is not excessively large.
The one-hour photo centers at all Wal-Mart stores are generally open every day (except Christmas, Thanksgiving and Easter) from about 10 am until about 7 pm for the actual task of printing pictures. So if you upload your digital images to a given store within this time frame (and you have less than about 100 prints total) by the time you get off-line, get into your car, drive to the local Wal-Mart and reach the photo center your prints might be finished and ready to go!
The cost for prints is currently about 24 cents each, with a discount if you get over 50 prints in a single order of the 4x6 size. You can also get 5x7 and 8x10 enlargements, plus wallet size photos. Additionally they can put your digital upload (up to 200 images) onto a CD for $2.82.
You can even make greeting or special occasion cards in a 4x9 inch format with a variety of templates covering many occasions (birthdays, new babies, graduation, etc.) and holidays. You can even add some personal text to the card. These photo greeting cards come with envelopes for mailing at a current cost of 40 cents each. Large quantities of these cards require overnight service, especially around the major holiday season when lots of people are ordering such cards.
These prices, of course, are as of January 2005 and subject to change without notice.
All you need to do is have digital images on your computer (from a CD, floppy disk or digital camera), have any internet connection (broadband does work better and faster than dial-up) and then establish an account at the photo center link found on the menu at www.walmart.com
If you want to save a little extra cash or get your pictures on glossy paper (the one-hour centers only provide the pebbled finish matte surface) and donít mind waiting 2, 3 or 4 days, you have an option for this service which goes directly to a local Fuji Photo lab for eventual delivery to a designated Wal-Mart store. You can also pre-pay your order and have them mailed to you or anyone else at an extra cost, or delivered to almost any Wal-Mart store in the United States. This means if you have friends or family across the country you can send them a print order which they will then pick up at their local Wal-Mart! Of course, you can also do this for yourself if you are on vacation and have access to the internet. Just upload your current vacation digital images, direct them for store pick-up in a few days and upon arrival home your vacation pictures will be there ready to enjoy!
