Diet One Oh One
One persons dieting journal

Monday 09.08.03 [7:38 am]

Today is the first day in the rest of my life...or is it the last day of next week that I might make it...or how about just.... I want to live!!!!

Friday, September 5, 2003, I went in to find out the results of my blood work. The doctor wanted to check on my cholesterol levels as my paternal grandmother had died of a heart attack and my father had to have a stint put in a major heart vein because it was clogged.

And, sad to say, since I was way over weight, 46, menopausal, and had been on the Atkins diet he wanted to just make sure that I was okay.

Wow, am I ever not okay...I don't remember the numbers but according to him they are way off the scale. Both bad and good cholesterol are too high and some other stuff that I can't even pronounce.

All I can remember is that I am a 'walking time bomb' and have to go on the Mediterranean diet, which is basically all fish and seafood. Not that I was a big beef eater but come on...no steak at all? He said no land animals, which pretty much means everything. Also, no diary products, vegetables under ground, and sugars. And I have to get down to 150 pounds. That means I have to lose 40 something pounds.

So if I want to live I have to give up the stuff I love like rib eyes and bake potatoes and nice cold milk...yummy.

*sigh*

So here I am taking Tricor and eating so much fish I think I can swim now. Tricor is the medicine that he put me on to help cut the cholesterol levels in my blood. That and the oatmeal I am now eating for breakfast.

I have decided to keep this journal to keep a record on how I am doing so I will come here once in a while with the latest news to let you know what's going on.

Anyway, I have to go back in November for another blood test and see if the med and the diet are working. I have lost a few pounds since then so who knows what is going to happen. I will keep you posted.
