The Phoenix Theatre
The Phoenix Theatre is housed in a quaint old renovated church that was donated by a patron of the arts in 1988. It is on the corner of St. Claire and Park Avenue in downtown Indianapolis Indiana.
Situated in the historic Chatham Arch residential district and amidst the revitalization of the downtown area.
The homes surrounding the theatre are being or have been lovingly renovated and it is a treat to drive down the streets to see the beautiful homes. All have a distinct and separate flavor yet blend together to make the area a wonder to see.
The theatre itself is comprised of a group of local theatre artists. Founded in 1982, the mission is to provide the theatre community with plays that focus on important issues. They have lots of fun in a professional and artistic flair that is a joy to see.
One of only three theatres in central Indiana with Equity status the theatre has made a commitment to the highest standards in the theatre field. The theatre joined the Actors' Equity Association in 1993 and the Phoenix has featured many professional casts.
The theatre has two performance spaces. The Main stage seats 125 which features new theatre seats and the second space is an 85 seat Underground Stage that provides seating on three sides of the stage.
It is a nice little building and very intimate. The artists are committed to craft and put on a great show. A definite must see if you are ever in Indianapolis.
